Nonetheless, the fragmentary and experimental assembly One-Way Street is more intimately tied to Benjamin's deepest insights into the world and more relevant formally to the presentational strategies he would develop and theorize in the years that followed than was his overtly philological work on the Baroque. While the former has been the object of many incisive interpretations, its fraternal twin-an avant-garde experiment assembled from sixty fragmentary and unorthodox texts, including everything from satirical lists to dream protocols to descriptions of children's behavior-has tended to remain unrecognizable, overshadowed by the imposing academic treatise. Walter Benjamin did not publish many books in his relatively short life, but in 1928 he published two, within weeks of each other: The Origin of German Trauerspiel and One-Way Street.
